Clean Cars For Arizona

Global warming is one of our generation’s most pressing problems.  We are already starting to see the effects, from one of the largest droughts in Arizona’s history to more extreme weather, especially during the summer months.  We know the solutions to this problem are out there.  We can make cars that get 100 MPG, build more energy efficient buildings, and get over 150% of Arizona’s energy from solar power.  We need our state’s leaders to start implementing global warming solutions, starting right here and right now.  That’s what Arizona PIRG’s Clean Cars Campaign is all about.

Here in Arizona, our rapidly increasing population has led to thousands of new cars on our roads. We have all felt the effects, from irksome waits in traffic to more troubling problems: the increasing threat of global warming; a growing brown cloud over Phoenix; and more smog days.

By establishing the Clean Cars Program, we can reduce our state’s global warming pollution, protect public health and save people money at the pump. Arizona PIRG students are urging Governor Napolitano to bring cleaner cars to our roads.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality will be holding a public hearing for the Clean Cars Program on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 6:30pm in Phoenix.  Join students all across the state to voice your support and help bring Clean Cars to Arizona.  For more information about the public hearing and to attend, click here.

Even if you cannot attend the hearing, you can still make your voice heard.  To send a message to Gov. Napolitano and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, expressing your support for the Clean Cars Program, click here.
