Energy Efficient Arizona
Right now Arizona gets over 90% of
its energy from dirty and dangerous sources, leading to air pollution,
unsustainable water use, and high, unpredictable electric bills. With
anticipated population growth in our state generating additional energy and
water demands, we're working to help establish an Energy Efficiency Standard in
Arizona.
Did you know that the average home is responsible for twice as much air
pollution as the average car? Arizona
homes, through energy use, produce thousands of pounds of pollution each year.
Using energy more efficiently is a great way to fight global warming while saving money. Using energy efficiently means less energy is generated by power plants, decreasing the amount of fossil fuels burned, which results in less global warming pollution and a cleaner environment.
Our states decision makers are discussing the adoption of an energy efficiency standard for Arizona. A standard of at least 20 percent by 2020 will offer an immediate, proven and important step consumers and businesses in our state can take to save money on their energy bills, stimulate the local economy and reduce our state’s contribution to global warming.
We’re calling on the Arizona Corporation Commission, Arizona’s utility regulatory body, to adopt an Energy Efficiency Standard of 20 percent by 2020 by the end of this spring.
Get Involved!
Join our efforts this spring to show the Arizona Corporation Commission that students across the state want to increase energy efficiency in our state. The best way to take action is to volunteer at one of our upcoming campus events.
Upcoming Event
Arizona PIRG Lights Up My Life! Event
To celebrate this Valentine’s Day, Arizona PIRG students across the state will help spread the love and the light with CFL lightbulbs! Volunteers will be getting their peers to fill out a valentine to their sweetheart and deliver it with a CFL lightbulb. In addition, we will be gathering petitions to let our decision makers know that we want to increase energy efficiency. Help us educate hundreds of students across the state about energy efficiency, distribute energy-saving CFL lightbulbs and get tons of support for adopting an Energy Efficiency Standard in Arizona.
